Our Founder Bruce
October 10th, 1946 - September 15th, 2025
For those of you who have been with American Sharpening for a while, you knew Bruce well. For those who were newer to the company, you quickly came to understand what a remarkable person he was. Bruce was the founder of American Sharpening—the man with the big personality, boundless energy, and unwavering drive that shaped the company into what it became.
Throughout his life, Bruce built many successful businesses, but it was in working with groomers and stylists over the past 20 years that he truly found his passion. After discovering that retirement wasn’t for him, he poured his heart into this work, building lasting relationships and creating a business defined by excellence and care. Bruce was a true go-getter who loved meeting new people. He considered his customers part of his extended family and worked tirelessly to ensure that the services he provided were second to none. His dedication, perfectionism, and pride in his craft left a lasting mark on everyone he worked with and helped make American Sharpening the company it is today.
When Bruce wasn’t on the road visiting customers, he cherished time with his family. He was a devoted father to two daughters and a son, and a proud grandfather to eight grandchildren—all living in Minnesota. At home and in the shop, he was often accompanied by his beloved shorkie, Buddy, who could usually be found trotting happily alongside him.
Bruce will be remembered not only for his entrepreneurial spirit and strong work ethic but also for his warmth, humor, and the genuine care he showed for everyone he met. His legacy lives on in the people he touched and the business he built with so much passion and heart.
Meet Brandon
Chief Operating Officer
Brandon is a Master Sharpener and Sales Rep for American Sharpening. He is Bruce’s grandson and has been working with the company for about two years. Ever since he was young, he witnessed the dedication that Bruce puts towards his work and the people he cares about, and he is proud to share his work ethic and integrity towards their clients.
American Sharpening is very important to their family, and Brandon is proud to be a part of it. Being a family business means that family is a priority for him. He has three brothers and loves spending time with them when he can. When he’s not at the shop, he can be found at a concert, fishing, or out with his husky, Dende.

Meet Brian, a valued Master Sharpener and Cutler of the American Sharpening team for over 10 years. Renowned as one of the finest sharpeners in the United States, his analytical care and precision set him apart in the industry. When he's not perfecting his craft, Brian loves to spend quality time with his family, enjoys fishing and camping, and delves into genealogy. We're proud to have him on our team!
Meet Rick
Master Sharpener
Meet Rick, our Master Sharpener and a vital part of our family business. As the son of Bruce and father to Brandon, Rick has witnessed the growth of American Sharpening from its inception, embodying the strong family values that drive our success. When he's not perfecting your tools, you can find him at his cabin up north with family, fishing and cheering on the Minnesota Vikings.
